I also believe Shauna will also act as a catalyst for the cannibalistic acts in the future if she continues to serve as the team butcher. Shauna is perhaps the character who has the most intimate connections with most of the other girls-she is demonstrably close to Jackie, Taissa, Lottie, and Van. In the early episodes, she serves as a bridge of sorts between Taissa and Jackie, who emerge as the proto-leaders of the team in the wilderness. Shauna as a #6 is the most interesting to me, probably because she's my favorite character, but also because she plays an intriguingly similar role in the wilderness. They also must have good soccer brains, with the ability to envision the field and make decisions. They serve as the link between the team's attack and defense, and are responsible for possessing and distributing the ball to other players. Holding midfielders are also very important to a team's success they are defined by their ability to create connections between the players. Lottie is on the path towards transforming her skills as leader of the team's defense to leader of a wilderness cult. Center backs are usually tall and strong, and I'd argue that Lottie's height is a tool that she can use for physical intimidation (think of her locking Jackie in the closet during Doomcoming). They are responsible, along with the goalkeeper, for directing the defense and often serve as the last line of defense for the team besides the keeper. Center backs are very important players their most important trait is consistency. Incidentally, this is the position I played. I don't have a ton to say about Laura Lee in this position, except that she would have worked closely with Lottie on the field, so that may be the origin of their friendship. Fullbacks are defenders on the right and left sides of the field. Van is arguably the most physically resilient of the girls, so she fits perfectly here. Goalkeepers are physically tough players, responsible for protecting their goal. ![]() Hopefully fellow soccer players will find this accurate and non-players will find it interesting nonetheless. Soccer jersey numbers are traditionally assigned by position number, and I think the girls' assigned jersey numbers match up pretty well with their positioning and style of play in the pilot scene. I've based this on the soccer scene in the pilot where you can see the girls' jersey numbers and get an idea of how their team works together. I played competitive soccer for most of my childhood and adolescence and also watch a lot of professional soccer, so I thought I'd throw my two cents in regarding the girls' positions on the field and how their positions may connect to the larger story and their character development.
